There are so many things to say about the day I interviewed Asma Khan, founder of the Carnaby restaurant Darjeeling Express and the only Briton to have been featured on Netflix’s hit show ‘Chef’s Table’.
We were in a hot and sticky studio in Soho, but any discomfort I felt as she arrived was short-lived: immediately I simultaneously felt like I was chatting with my warmest friend and most inspiring mentor. It was wonderful.
Asma has fast become a world-renowned name in the culinary world, having opened the exclusively female-chef restaurant Darjeeling Express in Kingly Court. Coming from no professional cooking experience and as a second-born daughter in India – which she goes into on the podcast – Asma has crafted her career from self-belief, hard work and pure talent.
Originally moving to the UK to join her husband and study law, Asma soon realised she’d feel more fulfilled following her own back-up plan. A hugely empowering account of a woman born with the odds against her, Asma’s message empowers women to follow their passions and change the game.
Give this one a listen, I can’t recommend it enough. Visit the Back-Up Plan Podcast on iTunes.
