My friends and I were discussing our obsession with interiors recently.
Akin to our love of fashion in our early twenties, our preoccupations with cushions, wallpaper and lampshades has over-ridden our desire to buy the latest dresses and shoes. We all wondered why, until we came to the conclusion that EVERYTHING looks good in our homes, whereas not everything looks good on our pregnancy-ravaged bodies any more ;)
There’s no scary strip-light changing room moment when shopping for a new lighting scheme, and your bum won’t look big in the fabric department. Just a lovely zen shopping experience for us all.
Which is why I’m so excited about the new HomeSense in Milton Keynes! I’ve long been jealous of my interiors blogging buddies with their talk of their local HomeSense stores: I’d heard stories of treasure troves of swiftly rotating stock that includes some of my favourite things. Candles, mirrors, lamps, rugs, furniture – and kitchen gadgets to die for.
I was invited along to the launch evening last week and happily skipped down the road to Kingston with some local friends to check out what was on offer. We were not disappointed!
As well as a lovely glass of Prosecco (this should be mandatory when shopping for home wears) I discovered mirror upon gorgeous mirror, enough copper accessories to satisfy the biggest Pinterest fan, really beautiful bed linen, a whole aisle dedicated to stationary and notebooks (!!!), kitchen gadgets and foodstuffs, table wear that made my heart pound and storage that I have only ever seen before in my dreams.
I have to admit to spending a disproportionate amount of time in the two scented candle aisles that evening – YES, TWO – I was in absolute heaven. There are brand names in store as well as some makes you may not have heard of, and everything was beautiful quality.
I couldn’t believe one of the most beautiful leather chairs I’d ever seen at a snip of usual high street prices (why am I so obsessed with chairs?!) and the rugs piled up: nothing changes the mood of a room faster than a good rug, and I’m thinking I might switch mine out in the living room come Autumn.
It was just fabulous.
And the shoppers trailing out the door on opening day obviously agreed with me!
I was very well behaved that evening and only left with a three-wick Neom candle (my favourite, and a £20 saving off the £45 RRP) but I’ve already started compiling a shopping list of things I want to buy: there’s the new lamp needed for my bedroom, storage for my new work area, a statement mirror to go above the sofa and a cushion for my favourite chair.
Lovely HomeSense at Kingston, I’ll be seeing you soon. I think I speak for the whole of Milton Keynes’ interior-loving population when I say we’re happy to have you!

oh that looks like my idea of heaven! Need a homesense near me!
STOP with the Homesense! It’s 06.32am and I want to go back to my local one NOW and get some new STUFF!
We don’t have a Homesense in Harrogate but there’s one at the same retail park where the Leeds ikea is and I always try to squeeze in a visit – love the cushions and throws! xx
I love HomeSense and so glad there is one in Cardiff – you never know what you are going to find in them which is always fun.
