The Ultimate Green Juice

There are many things I’ve unexpectedly become in the last few years, things that have surprised me. Gym goer, yoga fan, author, Radio 2 listener.

Juice lover is one of those things: who would have thought 10 years ago when I took a can of coke to be an acceptable breakfast beverage that I’d become one of those people chugging on green vegetable juices first thing? Not me.

Yet here I am, daily blitzing up enough fruit and veg to feed a family. And enjoying it… weirdo.

I use a mixture of green veg with a bit of fruit thrown in for sweetness – I reckon there’s no point going to the effort of creating these juices if you only stick to sugar-full fruit – but you can really use whatever takes your fancy. Sometimes spinach is substituted for kale, sometimes celery for cucumber or raw courgette… you get the picture. I never leave out the handful of grapes and apple though as I find they give the right amount of sweetness I need to counteract the veg.

I stay away from blending beetroot though, buying it only in cold pressed juices as blended beetroot turns your teeth red, always a little awkward when grinning on the school run.

I use the Breville BlendActive ColourMix Family Blender (£39) for mine, which whizzes the crap out of most fruit and veg, and comes with handy bottles for you to swig your juices out of. Perfect!

Green juice recipe

Green Juice

  • 1 handful spinach
  • 1 handful grapes
  • 1 apple (cored)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 stick celery
  • 1 cm piece broccoli stem
  • 1/2 lemon (juice only)
  • 150 ml coconut water
  1. Pop everything in your blender, whizz until smooth. Easy as pie!

This recipe was originally posted in 2014, yet I’m still enjoying it four years on.

Hahaha love those instructions! Brilliant. I’m a huge sucker for anything with apples and celery and cucumber (so refreshing for summer) but I’m yet to try a proper green juice so maybe I’ll give yours a go! xxx

  4. I’m a total green smoothie addict as well, I don’t know what I’d do without my vitamix as sad as that sounds. I’ve done a few cleanses, I’m kind of looking forward to doing one after I’ve finished breast feeding, I always feel so much better after them :-)
