Winter is the harshest on our skin: on a daily basis it experiences cold weather, warm central heating, hot water and those gloriously toasty heaters on buses and in shops that I find I must always must hover around. Cold/hot/cold/hot… it takes its toll.
I’ve had real struggles with my own skin this season. Its sensitivity has been elevated several notches and I’ve experienced several stress-triggered allergic reactions; one that happened after a rather lovely evening at home watching Magic Mike XXL (now that was the right kind of stress). At the time of reaction this means swollen eyes and the odd hive – it’s a very attractive look – and it leaves me with sensitive dry patches that are bothersome and hard to shift.
I mean, can you blame me?
There are products out there to help, most of which I covered in this post. But there’s one thing that has helped above all others, the most low-maintenance option I’ve found.
And surprisingly, that’s Clarins Radiance Plus Golden Glow Booster. A discovery I made totally by accident, as I scrabbled around in my bathroom drawers looking for something that would help give me my glow back.
What is it?
They say: “A natural formula that provides all the benefits of a self-tanner without the drawbacks! Its high-precision dosage works with any day or night cream to deliver made-to-measure results.”
I say: a beautifully formulated fake tan that you drop into your usual moisturizer or oil in the morning.
How do you use it?
Using 2-3 drops a day, simply pop this in with your usual moisturising product first thing and apply makeup over the top. The subtle colour develops over the course of the day. And the product has the bonus, as I have learned this week, of completely eradicates any rough, dry patches.
I generally only use this to top up my tan in the summer – funnily enough, a time when I don’t experience any sensitivity or dryness. Introducing it in the winter has been revolutionary!
What are the results?
Beautifully glowing, with a colour that looks completely natural. It’s not a miracle product – I’m still heaping on my heavy-duty moisturisers to keep sensitivities at bay. But it’s meant I can dial down the usage of these from 2-3 times a day to once, at night.
Where can I buy?
For £19 you can purchase from John Lewis, as well as buying direct from Clarins.
And proof that I really am overjoyed with my skin reverting to some semblance of normality:
You’re welcome ;)
Thank you Alice. This year has been particularly bad for me skin-wise – not sure if it’s stress, the weather conditions or just old-age – whatever it’s down to, all tips to help are very gratefully received.
Me too – it’s been dreadful. But interestingly the cold of the alps was fine on my skin. Weird!
That’s really interesting – I’ve never heard of that product before:) Can you add it to your body lotion as well as your face cream? Who doesn’t like a bit of glow! :)
they do a special one for body, too :)
Thanks Alice:)
