For many of us, staying in has become the new going out. I realised this around Christmas time, when the call of cocktails and late-night soirees was all well and good, but the idea of snuggling up with the kids in my favourite cashmere socks was just far more appealing.
Long gone are my days of propping up the bar (sob!) but maybe that’s no bad thing. I love nothing more than having the girls over for a few cheeky tipples. We don’t have a huge area for entertaining but my shiny little kitchen complete with bar stools is just enough for us. I tuck the kids in, make a big batch of ice-cold margaritas, put some nibbles in a bowl and let the gossiping commence. Utter bliss. And it’s all over and done by 11pm, meaning I can get that much-chased after 8 hours of sleep – no freezing night buses, no waiting in line for a cab, just taking off my eye make up and hitting the sack.
So I decided recently that if I’m going to be spending more time inside – or outside in the garden as the weather warms up and the idea of BBQs and lawn parties becomes more than a distant memory – then I deserve to treat myself to a super special piece that will instantly invigorate my living space. What do I have my eye on? A cocktail chair of course.
If, like me, you spend hours perusing Pinterest and pinning pictures of designer armchairs and dream kitchens to your boards then you won’t have failed to notice the recent trend for introducing a cocktail chair into your home. A look borrowed from luxe hotel lobbies and the Art Deco period, it correlates perfectly with the other interior styles de rigeur – think marble surfaces, rose gold fixtures and all velvet everything.
A keen lover of a vintage-inspired look, a chic cocktail chair will fit perfectly in our open-plan living space, and complement my cool corner bar cart to perfection. Lucky for you, I’ve done all the research for you and have rounded up my three favourites below…
With a high, rounded back and clear 1960s influence, the alluring Emelia Cocktail Chair by Arlo & Jacob will fit seamlessly into any hall, living room or even bedroom thanks to its sleek lines and nostalgic vibe – effortlessly on-trend for SS18.
In the colour of the season, this blush-hued velvet cocktail chair by Houzz has a hard-wearing birch frame (ideal for naughty little ones who are bound to climb all over it) and a padded foam finish for extra comfort. Plus, it’s called Lula, which is undeniably cheerful and chic. What’s not to love?
Featuring scalloping and a button-backed detail, the Fitz comes inspired by mid-century design and boasts a whole range of fabrics and colours to choose from. Trying to decide on one chic shade will be the hard part when purchasing this prize piece.
