Your little one no doubt has a wardrobe to rival yours which, just like yours, will need updating with the seasons. The warmer months are now, unfortunately, a distant memory which means it’s time to put away the pretty summer dresses and cool shorts until next year and swap them for clothes that will keep you warm and dry during autumn.
The weather between summer and winter is notorious for being changeable. One minute you’ll be wrapped up in your coat, even contemplating putting on a hat, scarf and gloves. The next, you’ll be wearing a jumper and considering taking it off.
So, to help you update your son or daughter’s wardrobe, here are the must-have items for boys and girls this season:
As well as bright colours, a dark autumnal floral is on-trend this season for adults and kids alike. Deep reds and burnt oranges alongside yellows, greens and purples are key colours during the autumn. Don’t think florals are just for the girls either, it’s the perfect pattern for boys’ shirts and sweaters too. These warm colours in a floral design will look super cute on your little one as they crunch through the crisp leaves that have started to fall from the trees.
Bright colours aren’t only for summer. A vibrant, cosy jumper will be an instant mood booster on a dreary and drizzly day. It is also perfect to layer with trousers or a skirt and can be worn with a t-shirt underneath and beneath a coat, if your little one requires extra warmth on a particularly chilly day.
A stylish coat
A coat is essential as it starts to get colder. You may want a lightweight jacket that they can throw over their outfit on a cooler day or, alternatively, purchase boys’ or girls’ winter coats to see them right through the icy cold months. A fur trim is on-trend this season, on the collar of both denim and corduroy jackets, as well as on the hood of parkas and padded jackets. You may also want to invest in a raincoat – for the wetter weather that is inevitable this time of year.
A pair of boots are perfect for autumn. They can be paired with a dress and skirt with tights or a pair of trousers and will keep feet warm and cosy as your little one runs around and plays outside when the ground is cold and damp. A pair of leather boots will do just that while looking stylish at the same time.
Kids clothes are influenced by fashion trends more than ever before and one that has transcended the adult’s rails and made its way to the kid’s ones, is the puff-sleeved top. This trend was around last autumn and it isn’t going anywhere this year. During the season that requires layering, tops are essential. They can be matched with skirts with tights or trousers and paired with a jumper or jacket. Then, when the weather changes or you go inside, your daughter can remove layers to show off her pretty top.
Both dungarees and dungaree dresses are an autumn staple. Denim is a popular choice but corduroy is particularly popular through the colder months. Colours and patterns are getting brighter and bolder, so don’t be afraid to step away from the darker shades. They are ideal to mix and match with tops and then jumpers – which are currently being worn beneath dungarees rather than over them.
These clothes will see your little one right through to winter, so start updating their wardrobe with trendy and warmer clothes – perfect for Halloween and Bonfire night.
