Finally! Spring has almost sprung and we can do away with the heavy wool, expensive cashmere and clumpy boots of winter. It’s time to shed those layers, remove those jeans and store those thick and scratchy wooly socks – this season it’s all about lighter clothes that will brighten your day as well as your mood.
Here are my four tips for trends that are hot hot hot this spring: even if the weather is not. Step into the next season and your newest look…
Mules are the perfect shoe for the season. Their heels are low but their style is off the scale… take advantage of the embroidery trend to bring yours bang up to date. I love these examples from New Look, which will go perfectly with another hot style this season, raw hemmed jeans. Perfect!
DIY and Make-Your-Own
We’re back to basics with this trend, and I hope you have your needle or sewing machine handy! Yes, this spring the more eco-friendly of us are going back to basics and researching patterns and styles to create their own items of clothing. There are some wonderful options out there if you are looking for apparel fabrics, and you will have the benefit of being able to pick your own garment from start to finish. Imagine being able to choose the exact style, shape, fabric and finish of your clothes? It might be the more labour-intensive option, but it’s definitely the most bespoke.
It’s becoming more and more popular now to wear your beliefs out there for all to see, and the real trendsetters are doing it with logo tshirts. From your political views to your motherhood status and feminist leanings, it’s all about being loud and proud in what your beliefs are. My favourite place for logo tees is Tease and Totes: the Girl Power tee is a favourite in our house.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or, you know, you’re not on Instagram) you’ll have noticed all the floaty shirts the internets’ best fashionistas are wearing. Arguably the hottest one around is the red kaftan top from Next, who I’ve seen on everyone from The Frugality to Erica Davies. This lovely shirt also comes in blue, but the hot colour of the moment is rouge. Get yours now, before they all sell out!
Which trends will you be sporting in the sunshine this season?
