When I was at school the little things meant a lot; we wore school uniforms with blazers and strict knee length skirts so it was pretty impossible to personalise your outfit. This meant your shoes and bag were a big deal and I still remember how brilliant it was when I had my first pair of Kickers, one red label, one green label. I remember feeling like some sort of crazy fashionista. There was also this huge craze for canvas BodyShop bags and little drawstring backpacks, mine was purple from Warehouse and made me feel like the big man on campus. I suppose a twelve year old’s Warehouse is a 28 year old’s Mulberry?
Similarly, the beauty products we would use were always noted and coveted. We spent hours at sleepovers making ourselves look beautiful and the haircare to have was always Aussie. I still remember those parties, we’d literally spend the evening brushing each other’s hair, making face masks out of honey and olive oil and talking about boys. In retrospect my nights in with the girls are strangely similar these days but with less hair brushing and more wine.
I don’t have Kickers any more but Aussie has stuck around and it’s a product range I use regularly. My favourite has always been the three minute miracle which gets slapped on when I’m taking a nice long bath or pampering myself before a big night out. It’s one of those long-standing products that has remained a reliable staple since my teens, like Nivea cream and Natural Collection’s liquid liner (still THE BEST). It smells good, it feels good and most importantly it works.
This Sunday 26th January it’s Australia Day (g’day mate! Throw another shrimp on the barbie! etc etc) and to celebrate Aussie are holding a Twitter party on Friday, with awesome hosts The Sunday Girl and Beautyandthedirt. Aussie’s Hair Care expert Liz Taw will be on-hand to answer any hair questions ready for the weekend ahead with a big focus on sorting out our PARTY HAIR! I’m going to a Burn’s Night celebration on Saturday night so I’m definitely going to be eagerly listening in for some going-out hair inspiration (and here’s some more on my Hair & Beauty Pinterest board). This week Aussie are also celebrating 3 new variants of their 3 minute miracle in mousse form which I am looking forward to trying – feel free to pick their brains about that too!
Liz Taw and her incredible hair
The Twitter chat will take place on Friday lunchtime between 12.30 and 1.30 and to take part simply use the hashtag #aussieparty. 10 lucky participants picked at random will be chosen at random to receive a goodie bag full of Aussie products (they’ll be DM’d if they win!). Follow @Aussie_Hair_UK – see you there?
