When Baby Grows

Big Girl's Bed

It is an exciting time for a child when they are old enough to sleep in their first ‘big’ bed. Exciting but also a little daunting!

With so many beds to choose from and so many different ways in which to decorate a little persons bedroom, it can be hard for a parent to know where to start when creating a bedroom that will serve as a play area and perfect
place to sleep.

All children love colour, the brighter the better. Many parents love the idea of a themed bedroom for their children which can be great fun to create, but will date quickly. Painting walls and adding age appropriate pictures and wall hangings will mean the style can be changed regularly without having to completely redecorate.

If the children’s room is the only spare bedroom, bear in mind future houseguests. Buying a sofa bed is a super idea as not only is there a spare bed for guests, it can also be used by parents if for example their child is ill, or
as a comfortable place to sit when reading a bedtime story.

Big Girl's Bed

The most important furniture item is the bed. Many toddler beds have bars on the sides that can be raised during the first few months to help keep them in bed all night, and then removed, as they grow older. Or there are many
novelty beds around from Peppa Pig to racing cars. Novelty beds are a great for encouraging a reluctant toddler to sleep in their own room although children will soon grow out of them. Take a look at Bedstar beds for a wide range of toddler beds.

Matching duvet covers and curtains are another simple way to add character to the bedroom. Despite their young years, even toddlers have a mind of their own and will be able to point out covers that they like.

Finally, make sure a child’s first bedroom is childproof. Avoid hard furniture with sharp corners and wooden floors without rugs that spillages can make slippy. Cover electrical sockets to prevent sticky fingers exploring and make sure windows cannot be opened wide enough for a toddler to climb through.

It’s a big step for a little person to sleep on their own for the first time, so making a bedroom that they love will be half the battle in helping them get settled and drifting off to sleep with a smile.

This bed was brought to you by Bedstar beds, but crazy child loving her big girl’s bed are all my own.
